Years ago when I was still a Windows user it usually took me every year (or maybe faster) up to 3 days to have my computer set up properly.
After a year or so I slowly realized that my computer got slower, programs didn’t properly anymore, Windows showed its blue screen and you just knew – it will be time to reformat your computer soon.
Personally, for me I usually tried to do that during my vacation time. I had to save all my files first to CDs or DVDs, later to external hard drives, collect everything necessary (including all the serial numbers – just to realize that I was missing the one or other once I killed the hard drive), and reformat the computer. Additionally, you had to install your operating system again, all the software you had, add your preferred settings from the color of the windows up to your desktop wallpaper.
Do you remember this scenario?
The good news is that I’m rid of this problem since I have a Mac computer. Even if you have to reformat your hard drive and have to install your operating system, software and user preferences again – thanks to Apple this got more and more easy! No, this won’t be a puff piece on Apple. But it does save me a lot of time.
Here are the reasons:
- I do my backups with time machine. This means, that when I have to reformat my computer I have a complete backup and don’t need to worry about saving my files to any external hard drives or even DVDs. I just use the time machine backup.
- Since Mac OS Lion you do not get operating systems in software boxes anymore but just from the Mac App store. So once you have cleared your hard drive you simply download the software and install it – no need for any license keys because the software has already been licensed to your name with your Apple ID.
